...about d.hummel-marconi

d.hummel-marconi’s artistic career began accidentally when scotch distiller, Dewar’s, discovered some of her sketches she had completed for an advertising client.   They hired her on the spot for a three month promotional tour as a caricature artist which turned into two years of invaluable work experience.

Being totally self-taught and without any outside influences, allows d. hummel-marconi a style that is  exclusively her own.  No degrees, no formal education, no nothing to brag about.  She just creates from her heart, choosing subject matter that is most always guaranteed to make people smile.  Her uniqueness is refreshing and very, very different, setting her apart from her peers.  Her style has been labeled whimsical, humoristic, and narrative.

Philosophically, she wants her paintings to say something and not used to match sofas or fill wall space. Her work is detailed, colorful and extremely verbal, most always telling a story.  She also refers to her individual titles as an added bonus as they are equally as entertaining.

She feels that her childhood contributed greatly to her work as her family was never at a loss for laughs.  She believes it was because of this that her humoristic spirit has carried through into her work and given many people much joy.  Anytime she can make someone smile or lighten up their life, it is a truly wonderful thing for her, truly a gift.  Objectively, if her art has given you cheer, her goal has been accomplished.

She participates in over twenty art shows throughout Florida during the winter months.  Her work has been purchased for jigsaw puzzles, greeting cards and has even hung in the White House.  She is commissioned often and her paintings are collected internationally.
